🐜 Bug of the Week: Amazing Ants!

Ants might be tiny, but don’t let their size fool you—they are some of the hardest workers in the insect world. In fact, ants can carry 10–50 times their own body weight. That’s like you picking up a car! 😳

šŸ” Ants Live in Communities

Ants don’t live alone—they live in large groups called colonies. Each colony has different types of ants with special jobs:

  • Queen Ant šŸ‘‘ – The leader who lays eggs

  • Worker Ants 🐜 – They gather food, build tunnels, and care for baby ants

  • Soldier Ants šŸ›”ļø – They protect the colony

Everyone has a role, and they work together like a team!

šŸ—£ļø How Do Ants Communicate?

Ants don’t talk like we do, but they DO communicate! They leave invisible scent trails (called pheromones) to guide other ants to food. That’s why you’ll often see ants walking in a straight line—they’re following a path!

🌱 What Do Ants Eat?

Ants eat a variety of things like:

  • Crumbs from our food šŸž

  • Sweet things like fruit or sugar šŸ“

  • Even other insects!

They help clean up the environment, making them super important to nature.

šŸ” Let’s Go Observe Ants!

Now it’s your turn to become a little explorer!

Grab a notebook or your Bug Tracker and head outside. Look closely at the ground, sidewalks, or near trees.

Ask yourself:

  • Where are the ants going?

  • Are they carrying anything?

  • How many ants do you see working together?

Try to sit quietly and watch them for a few minutes—you might be surprised at how much is happening in their tiny world!
