This week in our Spring Bug Series, we focused on one of the most important (and misunderstood) insects ā bees šš¼
Our goal each week is simple:Keep learning fun, hands-on, and real.
What We Learned About Bees
We started by going over a few key facts:
Bees are pollinators that help plants grow šø
They move pollen from flower to flower
Without bees, many of the foods we eat wouldnāt exist
Honeybees live in colonies with a queen, workers, and drones
Bees are not aggressive they usually only sting if they feel threatened
We kept it simple and interactive so the kids could stay engaged and ask questions.
š§ Real Talk + Discussion
I always like to mix facts with real-life conversation.
We talked about:
Why bees matter in our everyday lives
How they help grow fruits and vegetables
Why we shouldnāt be afraid of them, just respectful
This helps kids connect learning to real life.
š³ Hands-On Learning Experience
After learning our bee facts, we took it outside.
We went out back with friends, sat together, and drew bees based on what we had just learned. This gave the kids time to slow down and really think about what they were learning.
Then we grabbed our magnifying glasses š and went to observe bees in nature.
The kids:
Watched bees move from flower to flower
Noticed how focused and busy they were
Connected what they learned to what they were seeing in real life
And thatās the goal every time.
Not just learning factsā¦But actually experiencing them.
š Why We Focus on Observation
Reading is great⦠but seeing is better.
When kids observe bugs in nature:
Learning becomes real
Curiosity increases
They remember more
Something as small as a bee becomes fascinating when they can actually watch it work.
š± Whatās Next for Our Nature Club
Weāre excited to expand and:
Add weekday meetups
Explore more parks š³
Connect with more families
Create even more hands-on learning experiences
This is just the beginning.
š Final Thoughts
You donāt need a classroom to teach.
This week was a reminder that learning can happen:
In your backyard
With friends
Through simple observation
All you need is: A topic, a little curiosity, and a reason to step outside.
