Weekly Challenge Bite-sized tasks to help kids engage with the world nearby. Let's explore together.

April 27 – May 3

Spring is here, and that means the tiny builders of nature are back in action ANTS! This week, we’re slowing down and taking a closer look at one of the busiest creatures right in our neighborhoods.

Whether you’re at a local park, your backyard, or even on the sidewalk, ants are everywhere… and they have a LOT to teach us.

This Week’s Challenge: Follow the Ant Trail

Grab a magnifying glass (if you have one), head outside, and let curiosity lead the way.

Here’s your mission:

🔍 Find an Ant Trail

Look along sidewalks, tree bases, cracks in the ground, or near food crumbs.

👀 Observe Closely

Where are the ants going?

Are they carrying anything?

Do they move in a straight line or all over?

✏🏽 Draw or Write What You See

Have your child sketch the ants, their path, or even make up a story about their mission.

🍞 Test It Out (Optional)

Drop a tiny crumb nearby and watch what happens over time. (This is always a hit 👀)

🧠 Let’s Think Like Scientists

Ask your child:

  • Why do you think ants work together?

  • What do you think they’re bringing back to their home?

  • How do they know where to go?

🎨 Creative Add-On

  • Draw your own ant colony map

  • Make an “Ant Adventure Story”

  • Use chalk to draw a giant ant trail outside and follow it!

Spring Connection

Since it’s spring, you might also notice:

Ants near blooming flowers 🌼

More activity after rain 🌧️

Tiny ant hills popping up in the grass

Take a moment to notice how everything in nature is waking up and working together.

💛 For the Parents

This challenge is all about slowing down, observing, and connecting. You don’t need anything fancy just step outside and let your child explore. These small moments build curiosity, patience, and a love for learning.
